I'm not going to use our real names on here, not cause we're scary survivalist nutjobs, but because its none of your damn business.
At the moment there are only four of us:
Tiernan (yours truly) - a former US Navy Quartermaster & US Army Reserve Combat Engineer. I also have my EMT-B certification.
Ultra - the closest of us two a scary survivalist nut job.

There are 6 more potential members, a bouncer and his wife and a bar owner with 47 Harley's and a pretty good amount mechanical knowledge, and a friend of mine from the Army Reserve with his wife, son and unborn child and my squad leader who is a corrections officer . Other people we would like to find at some point would be a physician and someone with a serious agricultural background. Probably everybody will show up with a girlfriend and some hangar on's, but that's further down the line.
The first thing to stress to everyone is that its a slow process, and very easy to run out and blow massive amounts of cash on things that may or may not even work well. So we need to be on the same page.
Of course, the first thing everybody is going to bring up is firearms. And that is a just a mess of this caliber verse that one, amount people can spend, personal experiences... We're able to a void that, at least in the moment, because all four of us own a Mosin Nagant. Well, Ultra owns 2, and I also have a Romanian PSL that uses the same caliber.
The Mosin Nagant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosin_Nagant#World_War_II) is a Russian bolt action rifle with a 5 round non detachable magazine chambered in 7.62x54 Rimfire. They're cheap (roughly $120.00), sturdy and accurate as hell. Its been around since 1891, still being used by insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan. Turns up in militias in Africa too.
In addition a 12 Gauge pump action shotgun, a semi automatic pistol with three magazine in either 9x19mm Parabellum or .45 ACP (I'm not getting into that argument) and a .22 Long Rifle. preferably;y a Ruger 10/22. These are all widely used calibers in the US, and ammo is readily available and will be easier to find pot "The Event" than say
I'm big into common calibers, especially weapons that shoot more than one round, as well as being able to hand mags and ammo out among the group if need be. Ultra and myself purchased Judges, 1911's and .357's together, we also both have M4's, 12 gauge shotguns and .38 Special revolvers. And while that's where we'll try to push the other two, everyone but me has a fascination with the Russian military and I feel we'll end up with AK's and SKS', especially since we're starting with a Russian rifle anyway.
Another issue is what camo pattern to wear, and for now we're defaulting with BDU since we all have some, though this will be just as hot an issue as the assault/battle rifle one.
Other than this we're just working on assembling Bug Out Bags (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bug-out_bag) and trying to set ourselves goals. I'd like to be able to spend a week on the Appalachian Trail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_Trail) this spring or summer with our Bug Out Bags and sidearms, but that might be lofty a goal this early.
